Belly Flops (Pregnant Women Don't Try This At Home!)

I was telling some of the girls here JUST last week that I needed to go take a tour of the hospital so I'd know where to go when I go into labor...

Let's just say I was able to scratch that off my "To Do List"!

It all happened so fast so it's hard to say exactly WHAT happened, but I do know that I was dusting the mirror in our bedroom and I must have locked my knee right as I was turning around. My sense of balance is a little thrown off anyway, but then I twisted my ankle and before I knew it I had done an all out belly flop on the floor in my room! I was pretty upset because I thought that I could have hurt the baby, but I was sure he was probably okay. I remembered Kyle's grandmother telling me that she fell when she was 7 months pregnant and everything was okay so that helped me not worry quite as much. The Dr. wanted me to come in just to be on the safe side.

They ended up keeping me overnight since there was direct trauma to my baby bump. (By the way, that bump is a great cushion; I didn't feel a thing!) I was laughing as they were telling me I would be there overnight because I could not believe I put us (me, the baby, Kyle) in that position. I just resolved to kick back and enjoy the food (which was surprisingly good although I will pack my Tony's for my next stay) and hospitality. Kyle came later and brought some movies. The reason it was important for me to stay for 24 hours was because the doctor said that if there was any rupture of membranes or placenta separation, it would be evident through signs of distress from the baby. Had there been any signs of distress, they could have just wheeled me into the operating room and taken him. (I asked the Dr. if I could just go ahead and have the baby since I was there for the night anyway...sort of joking but a little serious...he said, "Nice try, you're not ready!"

I had an ultrasound and lots of blood work done. Everything looked great, and the doctor informed me that the baby looked like a "textbook perfect kid" and that the fall did not phase him one bit. I tell you what I have really put this little guy through some stuff...I'm hoping he doesn't try to get revenge during labor! Another positive thing from this whole experience was that the ultrasound tech. showed me the baby's toes...five on each foot. I had a dream he had six! Ha. When I told him that, he said, "Not your kid. See...five on each!" Whew.

Anyway, it was quite an adventure and not QUITE how we planned on spending our weekend, but I guess you never know what will come up on a lazy Saturday morning. Our wonderful friends here were so sweet, offering to bring us food, magazines, and even sit at the house while the painters finished. They have been such a humongous blessing to us, and having them here makes it seem like we are not that far from home!

Sunday after we left the hospital we went home, changed, and went straight to McAllister's for a celebration lunch that our Sunday School class gave us. It was so much fun, and we felt so special that they would do this for us even though we are so new to the class. This class has meant so much to us already, and we cannot even express how grateful we are to be a part of it!

So that was our weekend...never a dull moment around the Silvio house. Now we are down to single digits on the baby countdown. Thank goodness I was such a little gymnast this weekend...now we know exactly where to go when we get to the hospital and most of the nursing staff as well! =) However, I'm putting up my dust rag until the baby is safely here.
