Although our original plan to celebrate New Year's sans Jackson didn't quite work out due to him getting sick, Keith and Kayla still made the trek to Houston on New Year's Eve, and we had a wonderful time!
As soon as Keith and Kayla got into town, we headed out to Bucca di Beppo. They sat us in a cozy little half circle booth, and it was so fun! Jackson was great (which is not to be under-appreciated when it comes to restaurant experiences), and he only launched two Mr. Potato head pieces under the table next to us. We ended up getting three dishes to share (salmon with pesto sauce, lasagna, and Marguerita pizza), and they were all yummy! After dinner, we decided to see what was going on in The Woodlands, and we happened upon the Ice Rink/Winter Wonderland.
We all got out of the car and headed into the Ice Rink, Kayla and I still unsure whether the boys were serious about skating. They were. And it was hilarious at first. They got the hang of it quickly, and it wasn't long before Jacks was begging to join them. My child is NOT a good spectator. He wants to be in on the action...all the time. Kayla and I went to see if he could even skate since we didn't see any other toddlers on the rink. There were older children who were using walkers. Sure enough, he could skate! He got to wear the cutest little double bladed skates, and he was in HEAVEN. Check out this video:
Kyle took him around one lap using the walker. He LOVED it. He only ended up making two laps since we didn't feel right letting him continue when he was sick, but boy did he love it. After he got off the rink, he kept pointing his little walker toward the rink and taking off, bound and determined to get back on. I hated not being able to let him, but he was coughing so much. I think Uncle Keith swooped him up for one last little spin without the walker. It was so fun. Kayla and I had a blast watching the whole thing.
Here are some fun pics from dinner and the Ice Skating.
Check out his expression...lovin' those skates

Kyle, Jacks, and "Tuh" (how Jacks says "Keith")

Later that night...Jacks running around inside while Keith & Kyle got the fireworks ready

The only pic I got of one coming over the top of our house

Let's see, after all that fun we didn't have long to get home and do our fireworks before midnight. Yes...Keith and Kyle were launching fireworks from our very narrow backyard OVER the top of our house. I was the only one who seemed slightly terrified by this, so I just decided it probably wasn't a big deal. Kayla and I took Jackson in the front to watch the fireworks coming over the house. I am laughing as I type this...haha. He loved them! It was cold, so we didn't stay out for too long. Right about midnight the boys were being stubborn and working on getting these last two fireworks to go off, so our New Year's kisses came around 12:04. Ha! After that...Kyle and Keith played Call of Duty and I think us girls went to sleep early.
On New Year's Day we had a slow morning and hung around the house. Keith and Kyle hung out out with Jackson and played COD again while he napped, and Kayla and I headed out shopping. We only ended up buying each other a book...ha. I bought her Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, and she bought me Twilight. We are dorks, I know.. Kayla and I didn't even bother to head home for the LSU game...glad we didn't. Even more glad that we decided not to go to Orlando. Sheesh.
Later that night we headed to meet some friends of Keith's who also work for ExxonMobil and recently moved to Houston. We met them at House of Pies downtown. I ordered a Bavarian Chocolate Banana Pie and some coffee...divine. Jacks and I sat at the table next to everyone else so that we...I mean he...could have some space. It was better that way. He found ways to entertain himself, but I'll refrain from telling you lest you judge me. ;)
He did enjoy my pie. Of course...it had bananas in it.

After all the yummy pie-eating, we came home and put Jacks to bed and watched Paranormal Activity. Dont' waste your time...Kayla was the smart one who went to sleep. I really wasn't trying to watch but for some reason couldn't sit in the living room and not watch.
Saturday went much like Friday...Keith and Kyle playing COD and Kayla and I shopping. Later on that day (after MUCH discussion of what we would do), we headed down to the Galleria area and went to Cafe Red Onion, which could be a whole different post. (Horrible service + squirmy toddler + horrible service + squirmy toddler...you get the point.) We still love you, Cafe Red Onion, just not your Westheimer location. After all that, the boys headed to Dave and Buster's, and Kayla and I took Jackson in search of some yummy yogurt. Yay, Berripop. :)
That's about it. We had SO much fun with K & K (as always), and it was so good to be reunited again for NYE! Last year broke tradition, and that was super sad. This was way more fun! Hopefully we'll do it again next year. :)

I was going to be nice, but I had to post this. See Keith and Kyle hugging the wall? Kayla and I were DYING laughing. Don't worry, they caught on quickly. In the end, Keith was doing this fancy little number where he crouched down on his knees and glided. It was awesome.
