Jacks and I were out running a couple of errands this morning, and he asked to go to the "Li-berry." We had been talking about the library last night, and it was fresh on his mind. It was cold and rainy this morning, but we decided to make a detour on our trip home and hang out at the library for a little while. After exploring the children's section for a few minutes, we found a few books that I thought would capture Jackson's interest (one about engines, one about a baby duck in the rain, and one about an old bear) and plopped down on some large bean bag chairs in a back corner of the library. I never expected Jacks to sit and listen to any of the books, but he surprised me! It was raining today, so the book about the baby duck in the rain was perfect, and we were able to talk about the baby duck splashing in the puddles like Jacks had on our way into the library. The book entitled Old Bear was a perfect find! Of course we have our very own "Old Bear", so a book bearing (no pun intended...ha) the title of our favorite stuffed friend really excited us both. The book was about an Old Bear who got "lost"--stuffed away in a box in the attic--and his friends' adventures in finding him. The book was quite long for a 2.5 year old, but it really held his interest because he was very concerned about Old Bear being found! About a third of the way through the book, Jacks climbed into my lab and held me tight as he listened to the story. I know he never intended to give it his full attention, but the story was quite captivating...and the reader wasn't half-bad. I so much enjoyed these rare, quiet, precious moments with my very active boy today. We've come a long way since our days of having to leave Story Time in full meltdown mode. :)
