Today was a really great day, one of the days that makes you say, "That was the best day." We spent a good portion of it at one of our favorite local parks, Burroughs Park. One of the reasons I love this park so much is because it reminds me of Louisiana. The moss on the trees makes me feel at home. When we first got there, Jacks said, "Ewwww mom! Those trees have hair on them!"
We spent some time picnicking, swinging and playing on the playground equipment, etc., but we spent a LOT of time dragging around this big stick. We drug it through mud and even pretended to fish with it...
...until I realized we weren't really pretending... when Jacks said, "Mama...I just don't think I'm really gonna catch a fish with this stick." Bless his heart.
We took a little detour to a spot on the grass and tried to snap a few pics since the kiddos were dressed in green for St. Patty's day. That really wasn't all that successful, but I still think these pictures are precious.
Poor Reese...
"OK, mom, she doesn't really want to do this!" -Jacks
Can't believe my little man is almost four. That just hurts my heart and makes me want to smile and bawl my eyes out all at the same time. I love this precious boy.
"Mom, you're such a great digger!!!" -Jacks (I should add that compliments like this mean more to me than ANYTHING.)
We did a little turtle watching, too.
When we saw this tree in the water, I pointed out to Jacks that you could see the rings on the trunk really well and reminded him of how the number of rings on the tree tells you how old the tree is. He said, "Mom - You mean how old the tree WAS." Haha. Kyle and I are getting corrected on so many things that we say lately as our little man is learning about the world around him and learning right from wrong. It's exciting and scary all at the same time. He was definitely right about my incorrect tense usage!
Sister just chillin'
After we played for a while, we walked around the lake. Lots of people were out fishing. Jacks learned about minnows from the first father/son pair we passed, and they even let him stick his hand in the bucket and pick one up. The next group of people had worms as fishing lure, and Jacks was all excited to learn about that. They let him hold one, and he was mesmerized by the whole thing. The family was a Mom, Dad and two boys--an eighth grader and a fifth grader, Chandler and Harrison. These were seriously the most polite young boys I've ever met. They took the time to show Jacks how to cast a line, sat there while he just wanted to throw it out and reel it back in over and over and over (every time saying, "I caught a WORM!!!") They didn't have to give him the time of day, but it was so special to him, which made my heart so happy. Jacks had a blast. The mom even pulled out a tailgate chair for me and we sat there for a while chatting and having fun watching Jacks have the time of his life. What sweet people.

He did so great! So proud of my little man!
We ended our fun morning at the park with ice cream cones...yum! Jacks said over and over how much fun he had. What a great day!
