Baby Dedication

We took Jackson to Baton Rouge this past weekend to have him dedicated at our home church, Jefferson Baptist. It was so special to have the same pastor who married us dedicate our first born son. It was also special to have the church family who has loved us so much through the years and who we love and will always hold dear lift Jackson up in a prayer of dedication. The service was symbolic of what we have already done in our hearts, which is dedicate Jackson to the Lord. We pray for him and with him every night that he will come to know Jesus as his own personal Savior one day. We cannot wait to see what the Lord has planned for Jackson's life, and pray that we can set a Godly example for him as his parents. We know we will make mistakes, but we are thankful that God has given us the chance to raise a son. We are also thankful that we can dedicate him to the Lord and trust that He will take care of Jackson's every need.

We told Jackson that morning on our way to church that he better get all his "sinnin'" out since he was about to be dedicated! Isn't it wonderful that we don't have that sort of pressure...that Jesus died for our sins so that we can LIVE eternally with him? All we have to do is admit that we are sinners, believe that Jesus is God's son, and confess that we want Him to come into our hearts so that we may be saved . It's THAT simple, and that is our prayer through all of this--that Jackson would come to know Jesus in such a way that he will live eternally with Him. We can rest in the knowledge that Jackson's heavenly Father can take way better care of him than we can.

The following are lyrics to a song written by Erin O'Donnell that I love. It is a song that I sing to Jackson when I rock him, and it is the prayer of my heart...that he would hold on to Jesus.

You're a little piece of Heaven
You're a golden ray of light
And I wish I could protect you
From the worries of this life
But if there's one thing I could tell you
It's no matter what you do
Hold to Jesus
He's holding on to you

The world will try to tell you
That might is more than right
That beauty's on the outside
And being good's a losing fight
But remember what I've told you
Because the world will make you choose
Hold to Jesus
He's holding on to you

Hold on to Jesus
Cling to His love
Rest deep in His mercy
Whenever things get rough
Don't lose sight of His goodness
And don't ever doubt this truth
That when you hold on to Jesus
He's holding on to you

Hear me dear Jesus
Rock this little one to sleep
Keep him close when he's scared
And give him grace when he is weak
I know he'll stumble
But I know he'll make it through
If you hold to him just like
You said You'd do
Hold him Jesus
And he'll hold on tight to You
