I think it's safe to say (although I still won't name the School District--just in case things don't work out), but I'm pretty sure I have a J-O-B! It sort of kind of fell in my lap, and it's exactly what I have always said I would do if I went back to work. I absolutely love being a SAHM and am excited that this job will give me the chance to still do that, but it will also give me a chance to keep my hand in the "VI Pie" as some of my VI friends say.
I know that was dorky.
For those of you who aren't in the education world, VI stands for Visually Impaired. I am a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired, and my experiences prior to becoming a mom have been varied. I was a classroom teacher at the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired for two years (after working in the Residential Program there for 3 years) and was an Itienerant Teacher in East Baton Rouge Parish for one year before we moved to Houston. I absolutely LOVE what I do!
I will be working 2 days a week while Jackson goes to Mother's Day Out, and then I'll be working additional hours (0-10) from home. I will be providing direct and/or consultative Visually Impaired services and Braille transcription for students with visual impairments in a local school district. I did not think I would be going back to work until my children were in school, but I just could not pass up the opportunity to take this job since I was already planning on putting Jackson in Mother's Day Out for one day per week and I have an occasional itch to work with students!!
I will let you know how things go. I should be starting sometime mid to late August or early September.
I'm excited!
