Christmas is coming! Christmas is coming!

I am SO excited about this Christmas season. I am more relaxed than I was last year about traveling, and I am just ready to have a good time and celebrate the birth of our King. I love telling Jackson about the Baby Jesus and seeing him in awe of all the Christmas decorations (not that there are many) in our house. Last night, he saw a snow globe for the first time. I kind of had this little moment with myself when I saw his eyes light up and I almost lost it. There is nothing like the joy of a child. So innocent and pure. I try really hard not to be a total sap in moments like that...it's just that I know there will be a day (all to soon) when he will not be the least bit impressed with it all. So, I'm enjoying every.single.moment.

It has been pretty chilly these last few nights, so we have started using our fireplace. We built a fire in it for the first time ever on Monday night! Jackson loved it and was so cute watching it. All night, he kept going and standing by it. We need to go get some more fire wood because all we're using right now is a starter log. Now that it rained, I guess we'll have to wait a few days. The fireplace in this house is what sold me on it! It's 3-sided and beautiful. When we were looking at the house, I imagined us building a fire in it and taking pictures at Christmas time. Don't ask me why we didn't build a fire last year. Honestly, it took me a while to be "myself" again after having Jackson. I don't mean that I was unhappy; I just had a major case of pregnancy brain even after his birth, ha! Seriously. Things that should be done with minimal effort seemed very complicated to me last year!

Anyway, back to Christmas. We started a new tradition last night with Jackson. Aunt Rhonda gave Jackson the "Elf on the Shelf" book last year, and I couldn't wait to start it with Jackson. Kyle read the book, and Jackson did pretty well listening. He kept smiling at the little Elf, whom we named Charlie and will hereafter be referred to by his name. It was fun to know this was the start of something we will do every year.

Don't be deceived...he didn't sit like that the whole time, ha, but I happened to catch this picture in a moment where he was still. :) He sure does love his Daddy.

...And here's where we put Charlie for the first time. (If you don't know about what you do with Elf on the Shelf, this probably doesn't make much sense to you.)

Merry Christmas!!!

If you love having a fire in the fireplace, might I suggest gas logs. No need to chop firewood or wait for it to dry out. We asked for them for our first Christmas and I love that I can start a fire when I'm home by myself!
