I had a dream the other night...or a day dream the other day...I don't know. At some point, whether asleep or awake, I was imagining Jackson running off and me not being able to catch him. It was a really scary feeling, and as I chased after him I prayed, "Lord, please make him fall so that I can catch him. Make him fall...Make him fall."
As we sat out in the front yard today and he was running up and down the sidewalk in front of our house, I thought about the dream that I had. Of course I would never want any harm to come to my little man, but if he was running faster and faster toward harm's way and further away from my reach, I would rather him fall face first on the ground than encounter much worse danger.
I thought about how God allows us to experience certain trials in our lives. Sometimes he is protecting us from greater harm. I'm not certain of all the reasons the Lord allows us to endure hardships, but I can't help but feel like sometimes He does it so that we will draw near to Him. Sometimes it may be the only way He can reach us...to see us fall flat on our face.
I don't know whether you are experiencing a difficult time in your life or if you've just had a rough day. Whatever it is, I hope you will use it to draw closer to Him...and stay there.
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1: 2-4

What a wonderful lesson!
Thank you for reminding me of this. I feel like having a child has awakened me to many lessons about God that I wouldn't have learned otherwise; or maybe it's that I see differently and more clearly now because I see the way God views me as I view my son. Thank you for writing it down.
This spoke directly to my heart. Thank you. :o)
So true and sometimes hard to hear!
