So, I've been in what one might call a "hair dilemma" ever since we moved to Houston. I didn't realize that the water was the source of the problem until after many trips home to BR where magically my hair was it's happy self again. And by that, I mean it didn't fight me every time I tried to style it. I tend to be stubborn and was not about to rush out and change up my shampoo just to pacify the harsh water (that is really more like chlorine) here in this lovely city. I was not going to let it win!
Well, around Christmas (this year) I made the declaration that I was doing it...I was going to move into the world of expensive shampoo buying just because there was no other way to tame my hair. Besides, maybe it wasn't ONLY the water. Since I moved here only 8 weeks before I had our little man child, it's hard to know what we can blame on Houston and what we can blame on him.
I have been using Tressemme products for as long as I've been married. More than one hair stylist have told me that if you're not going to buy salon products, buy Tressemme. I will say that it worked wonderfully until recently. I know that you're supposed to periodically change up your shampoo, and I tried all kinds but to no avail. So, walking into Ulta to purchase a new and expensive shampoo was kind of exciting. It was like guaranteed hair happiness was right around the corner. Then...complete sticker shock. $25 a bottle? And that was on sale? I go through a lot of shampoo! I've been told that they run buy 1 get 1 free sales, but I'm really not good at planning ahead. What will happen is a nightmare situation where I have.to.have.shampoo.right.now, and I'll have to run out to Ulta and pay $25 a bottle. As crazy as it sounds, I still had my mind made up (and a preschool BOY in tow which always moves things along...especially when he's walking up and down the aisles touching and saying "Oooooo....prettttty.") So I gathered my things and corralled my boy and off we went to the counter. I needed a few other makeup items that day, so I threw it them up on the counter with my new shampoo and conditioner. My total was $100. At a makeup store. I had to back out and fast. I think I even started sweating. I was imagining myself telling Kyle that I spent $50 (plus tax!) on hair products. I quickly told the man "No, thank you" and left with my few makeup items and back at square one with my hair dilemma.
I don't think y'all understand what I mean when I say "hair dilemma." It was bad. Like sometimes I wanted to cry while I was trying to blow dry my hair. It took me almost an hour. Awful. And I promise...I'm really not that dramatic.
So...later that day I had to run to Wal-Mart. I was strolling the shampoo aisle when I saw it: Pantene Pro-V...shining like the sun. I worked in a professional salon for 6 years as a receptionist, and if I learned one thing--it is not to use Pantene Products. Why? Because they give the cuticle a waxy coating that gives the appearance of healthiness, but the hair is not healthy on the inside. Who. Stinking. Cares?? Not me! Not anymore!
I'll take fake health. As long as I can blow dry my hair without crying and keep my $50 every three weeks.
I decided to try it and...Voila! Hair Dilemma 2008-2011 solved! I am now the proud owner of a waxy coating that makes my hair happy (apparently.) I will revisit the expensive shampoo world later in life. For now, thank you Pantene Pro-V. You are the source of much recent happiness. I have been styling my hair more often, and I know everyone who sees me on a regular basis is so happy. All my ball caps were falling a apart and making my forehead itch. They are probably happy, too.

That's so funny--I always think how much nicer my hair is when I go home to the soft water of BR. I was hoping you'd found "shampoo for places with hard water." :-)
So can I please admit that I just realized I hadn't looked at your blog in MONTHS (since it went private) so I totally didn't realize all of these cute updates were here! So sorry for being a terrible friend!
I've always had this dilemma - and I think its gotten worse since I've had kids. I was told to stop using Pantene products too because of the waxy coat and they put me on Redkin which isn't so bad. Hmmm....good luck
LOL!!! Love it!! I use the expensive shampoos only to finish the style with hair wax to calm mine down! (and I'm in B.R.) Now that I've learned about Pantene, I may have to try it and save my money too!!! May save on hair wax too!!! Thanks for the info!!!
